Hello! Just found your site. We recently said goodbye to our adopted friend. Pigpig was well loved and cared for. But she apparently didn\'t have that much time left with us. Her back foot was broken and healed weird, she came with a sticker on her cage from the rescue lady. I think she may have been owned by a family with children, can\'t say for sure, but her quality of life (with us and our animal family)for her final year were great. I miss her. But as it happened, I\'m very glad that it happened right before my boyfriend moved to the bay area to start a new job. i\'m still in rochester, ny packing. i\'ll roadtrip with a friend and our pets when he finds a place. I\'m glad we were able to mourn her together, instead of calling him after he left to tell him the news :( Anywho.... so I found your site today. Sounds perfect. Pigpig came from a home rescue. The pain of Pigpig is still really fresh, but immediately we knew that one of the first things we\'d do once I moved out as well, would be to get two pigs. Pigpig was older and lived alone, the plan was to get her a friend after the cross country trip. She left us right before that. So we\'ll be in touch! Sorry for the really long guestbook message. Just really appreciate your efforts and can\'t wait to open our home/hearts to two pig friends! <3 - Diane J, Sat, 7 Jan 2012 8:05PM | ||||||||||
I really have enjoyed spending time on your website. I have 2 cavies, Sophie is now 5 years old a true Blonde American Standard. And Coco is a dark blue black Cornet she is 3 years. Both are the love of our life. We got Coco when she was two. We lost Sydney very suddenly no sign of any illness, we just found her in the middle of the night. Poor Sophie was so distraught we adopted Coco with in 2 days. We were grieving for our loss of Sydney however, I just could not bear to see Sophie so upset and she had stopped eating and the constant crying for her sister. I was in fear of loosing them both, I took a gamble and it worked praise be to god. We got Sophie and Sydney when they were 6 weeks old. Same breeder they had never spent a day apart. Sydney passed a month after her fourth birthday. I was freaking out over guilt if we should get another cavy so soon; Sydney had bonded with Skip from the moment he first held her... We were unsure if it would work a new companion so soon after the loss of Sydney. Sophie is pretty bossy and we are well into our second year. They are both healthy and happy as can be. Coco is still the shy one but loves the one on one attention. We left them for three weeks with our pet sitter while we went to Costa Rica last year. Things worked out great. Strangely enough these little animals have extraordinary memories of people that have kept them in the past. She is a Vet Tech so they are in the best of hands. I did not know much about cavies when we first started. I pretty much have treated them with TLC and they seem to eat just about everything cavies can have. The one thing some owners may not know if you live where Banana Trees grow, they love Banana leaves. This is a great green source of food to add with other veggies. The darker the green the better. I always wash really well and rinse with apple cider vinegar in case of any type of parasites... I love what you are doing. I will always keep you in my favorites. Also, I know it cost to keep these little wonderful beings. I would be most happy to put you on my charity list. You are doing such a wonderful job finding these wonderful animals homes. To all of you who do not know. Cavies and Cats can co-habituate quite easily. Mollie is 12 years old we slowly introduced them, and it has been a success. Of course it has always been supervised. Skip has taken many photos of Mollie sleeping in the center of my chest and Sophie and Coco one on the left and one on the right. I can not tell you how these girls have blessed my life. When Sydney passed Mollie (our female cat) stayed on the foot of the bed so Sophie could see her. It was the only thing that kept her from continued crying and barking, unless I was holding her. Mollie seemed to understand we had lost Sydney. Your website really touched my heart. God bless you and everyone who adopts. You will never find any animal of this size that gets more intelligent by the more attention you give them. They are extremly adapative to schdules and learn new behaviors very quickly. I have most of their sounds down that lets me know what they are asking for. One thing that always amazed me they new when my partner would be with in three blocks of home. They would start pop corning. I new he was so close to being home. Also. One final note being a psychologist. I used them with my clients. They have such a loveing calming effect if the patient would be upset. Thanks for listening and letting me share I am in hope my testimony will help others decide to adopt. I would have to say they really are very close in love behavior to a dog or cat.
